BACK TO SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE
The back to school food drive will take place between
August 15 - August 29. Businesses and office buildings are
encouraged to participate.
We are asking for donations of canned tuna,canned pasta, fruit cups,
and peanut butter.

Thanks to NCL and their volunteers the backpacks were
packed and ready with supplies when the kids came to pick them up.
WVFP purchased the backpacks this year
Over 300 backpacks were ready to distribute to clients.
Monica Kern donated books and each child had the chance
to select 2-3 reading books to add to the backpacks.

As Chairman of the WFVP board of directors I want to
thank all of our hard working volunteers, coalition members, donors
and sponsors for their valuable contributions to the West Valley
Food Pantry. We are entering a new period of growth and renewal as
we celebrate our 30th year serving our neighbors in the West San
Fernando Valley and your contributions make this possible.
As we move into the future it is time for us to
reexamine our mission and values as an organization and lay the
ground work for future growth as an organization.
I am excited to share with you the news that efforts
are underway with the prestigious Marketing firm Segal and Gale to
develop and expand our organizational messaging to the community,
improve marketing materials and establish a new brand identity.
Segal and Gale have generously donated the firm's time and the
talents of their staff to achieve this goal. This will include a
new pantry logo, consistent marketing guidelines and the materials
we need to communicate with the community as we expand our outreach
for corporate sponsors and grow our individual donor base.
We are fast approaching our 30th Anniversary Awards
Luncheon scheduled for Sat. September 12th at noon in the Prince of
Peace Family Center. We look forward to sharing the new Branding
Materials and concepts with you. Please RSVP to Debbie Decker

Your board of directors is hard at work and is here
to recognize your interests and concerns. Please feel free out to
reach out your coalition representative or any board member with
questions or concerns or forward comments to your pantry
supervisor. There is also a suggestion box in the pantry,
feel free to drop in a comment or suggestion.

Hank Suzukawa has been instrumental in the development
of the database which will help us to better manage client intake,
fund raising activities, events, food drives and list management.
Training on the new system will be provided once the beta testing is
completed and the board has had an opportunity to review the
We are working on improving how we manage operational
challenges. The Executive committee meets the fourth Monday of the
month to work on operations issues and is in the process of updating
the by- laws of our organization, streamlining our meetings and
addressing concerns. If you would like to contribute process
improvement ideas, please forward them to the pantry supervisor or
myself for discussion at the board meeting and the operations

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE COORDINATOR:
WVFP is in need of a coordinator for the holiday food
drives. This is a coordinator role working from the master food drive
calendar to coordinate holiday donation drop-offs with the warehouse staff,
coordinating volunteers to work a food-sort for 4-5 schools during
November and December as well as being the point person for email
regarding holiday donations and questions.
Need reliable person with large truck or pick-up truck
to make about 2 runs per week, during morning hours, to grocery
stores to pick up supplies for the Food Pantry and deliver them to
the Pantry. Must have own truck, California Driver's License, some
freedom with scheduling, and the will to help us out. Reimbursement
for gas costs available.
Chief responsibilities will be grocery store ordering
of supplemental food items, arranging payment at store, and
coordinating driver pickup of purchases and overseeing delivery to
warehouse. Will coordinate with the warehouse manager regarding
inventory stock levels and order necessary supplemental food from
preferred vendors as needed. Will shop for best buys and discounts
and make buying recommendations as needed. Works with store managers
to ensure orders are correct and delivered as scheduled.
